We collect an email address and almost nothing else. This page says exactly what, why, where it lives, and how to have it deleted.

The short version

We collect your email address. If you choose to tell us, we also record whether you describe yourself as an investor or an advisor, and which part of the site you signed up from. That is the entire list. We do not sell it, share it, or hand it to advertisers, because we do not have advertisers.

What we collect, precisely

• Your email address, when you give it to us.
• An optional segment, investor or advisor, if you select one.
• A source label, recording which part of the site the signup came from.
• A one way hash of your browser's user agent string, used only to detect automated abuse. It cannot be reversed into anything identifying, and we do not store your IP address.

We do not ask for your name, your phone number, your address, your date of birth, or anything about your finances, and we do not want them.

The fee calculator and the question sheet

The numbers you put into the calculator stay in your browser. They are not sent to us and we never see them. The question sheet is generated on your own device from those numbers, which is why they appear in the page address when you open it. If you share that link, you are sharing those figures, so treat the link the way you would treat the numbers themselves.

Statement uploads

Parts of this site describe a future service in which you could upload an investment statement for review. That service does not exist yet and there is nowhere on this site to upload anything. When it is built, it will be governed by an updated version of this policy published before the feature opens, and that version will describe how documents are handled, redacted, stored, and destroyed. We are stating this now so that nothing on the site implies a data practice we have not yet defined.

Cookies and analytics

We do not set advertising cookies and we do not use Google Analytics. We use privacy first analytics that count page views without identifying individual visitors and without storing anything on your device that would require a consent banner. That is why you have not seen one.

Where your information lives

Email addresses are stored with Supabase, on servers in Canada. Confirmation emails are sent through Resend. The site itself is served by Vercel. Each of these providers processes data on our instructions and none of them is permitted to use it for their own purposes.

How long we keep it

Until you ask us to delete it, or until we stop operating, whichever comes first. If you unsubscribe, we remove your address rather than suppressing it, unless we are required to retain a record that you asked to be removed.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law you may ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Write to hello@honestadvice.ca and we will answer within thirty days. There is no form and no process, it is a small company and a person will read your message.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will say so on the open book, dated, alongside everything else we change.
